Susan Mangatal is the newest board member of the DC Caribbean Carnival, Inc. (DCCC), the organization that has been responsible for coordinating the metro area's Caribbean carnival every June for the last eight years. She was also voted the board's new secretary. To celebrate husband Todd, president of Arious Entertainment, and good friend Alton Gayle, owner of the Crossroads Entertainment Complex, threw a party in her honor. The entertainment lineup included the brother & sister team of Tara and Troy Humphrey (children of Peter Humphrey, the leader of Oasis, a local Caribbean band), playing steel pan music as well as up and coming young talent Chavonne Baptiste who sang, and played the keyboard.
Mangatal said she was touched by the entire event and will treasure its memory. In her thank you speech she told the guests, "I am truly honored to be voted onto the DCCC board, and I will continue working as hard as I did with the Band Leaders Association, to making this Carnival bigger and better. And I commit myself to the DCCC and all of its efforts to promote Carnival in Washington D.C. to it's fullest." |
