Actor, director, producer and choreographer Debbie Allen returns to the
Kennedy Center in the production "Harriet's Return - A Tale Based Upon the
Life Of Harriet Tubman." The critically acclaimed play by Karen Jones Meadow,
about the Underground Railroad heroine, plays in the Kennedy Center's Terrace
Theater April 13 through April 20, 2001. "Harriet's Return" recounts the extraordinary life of the legendary freedom
fighter. Allen portrays an earthy, spirited Harriet, as well as, many of the
other characters Harriet meets throughout her life. Audiences travel with
Harriet from her childhood of labor and abuse, to her crusade for freedom
from history's injustices. While Allen stars as the historical leader Tubman, her stages of life are
represented through the voices of actors Seraiah Carol, LeRoi Freeman,
McKenzie Frye and Stephen Smith. This dramatic work by Allen is in contrast
to the dance-driven commissioned works she has produced for the Kennedy
Center over the last few years. She returns in spring 2002 with "Pearl" which
will feature the talents of local young performers. Tickets for "Harriet's Return" are $25. For show times and additional
information call the Kennedy Center box office at 202-467-4600. |
