Western world whites are orchestrating the overthrow of a democratically
elected head of state, Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe, right before our
eyes. Led by the Western media's play on the ignorance of their audiences
and, through outright lies and subtle distortions in print and via broadcast,
white forces are guiding us, the uninformed, to the inevitable conclusion -
that Mugabe must go.
Zimbabwe's tragedy began with Cecil Rhodes and his gang of British
settler-colonists. They stole Zimbabwe's land from its indigenous people by
force and violence, naming it Rhodesia. But, after 15 years of armed str
uggle, Mugabe-led revolutionists defeated the white supremacist regime,
forcing Great Britain to the bargaining table. The resulting "Lancaster
Agreement" provided a golden parachute for white Rhodesian colonial
descendants, guaranteeing them disproportionate representation in Parliament
for 10 years and assuring them compensation for returning lands they had
stole to the rightful owners.
In the beginning, the Western press lauded Robert Mugabe as a "hero" for his
"moderation" and refusal to exact vengeance against the defeated white racist
regime. Mugabe initially relied on one of the key aspects of the Lancaster
Agreement, the promise by the British government (publicly) and the US
government (privately) to provide money to compensate white thieves for the
land they illegally "owned."
20 years after Zimbabwe's independence, descendants of Rhodes'
settler-colonists, comprise one percent of the population, but still own 85%
of the arable land of a country whose economy is grounded in agriculture. The
masses of Zimbabweans, poor and still landless, were frustrated and angry
over this. So, in accelerating the land reform program, President Mugabe
responded to the demands of the people and continuing refusal of Great
Britain and the US to honor "Lancaster" payment promises. Overnight the
Western press transformed the "hero" of the 1980s into today's "Tyrant,
Dictator and Racist." What changed was not Mugabe, but the increasing threat
land reform now posed to continued white economic hegemony. A
Western-orchestrated campaign of character assassination, economic
manipulation (e.g. withdrawal of bi-lateral and international funding
credits, artificially induced fuel shortages, etc.) and the creation of an
"opposition party," the MDC (Movement for Democratic Change) followed.
MDC's position, diametrically opposed to ZANU-PF's demand for economic
self-determination, was that "we need jobs, not land." Funded by
resource-rich, white forces based in Great Britain and South Africa, the MDC
established support in Zimbabwe's urban areas. The Western-funded campaign
"produced" 57 seats for MDC in the parliament.
The ongoing assault on Zimbabwe is now in the form of legislation being
considered by the U.S. Senate. The Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery
Act of 2001, under the guise of a restoration of democracy to Zimbabwe,
orders further freezes on international aid, provides millions of dollars to
the MDC, authorizes the U.S President to determine when democracy has been
restored, and provides for a Southern Africa Finance Center to preserve and
protect Western interests throughout the Southern African Development
Community region.
African Americans must see this racist assault on the rights of Zimbabwe's
people to own and control their own land for what it is and make sure it gets
rejected. William Reed is the author of "Who's Who in Black Corporate America." For questions or comments email him at businessexchange@metroconnection.info. |
